SR International / Syriac=Aramaic?

[edit]

Is "Syriac" correct english for the language they mean? http://www.sr.se/international/ use the language name "Aramaic" (in english), "Assyriska-Syrianska" (in swedish), and "ܣܿܘܪܝܵܝܵܐ" (in the language itself). I suspect "Syriac" should be changed to "Aramaic" on this page. David A se (talk) 18:04, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

According to List_of_ISO_639-2_codes "ܣܿܘܪܝܵܝܵܐ" is "Syriac (Northeastern Neo-Aramaic)". Now I suspect the page is okay as it is. David A se (talk) 20:46, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sveriges Riksradio / Swedish National Radio

[edit]

I have reverted the changes made by an anonymous user at 86.13.149.40 on 22/02/15, because even though Sveriges – literally translated – does mean Sweden's, it is the usual practice internationally, and in the case of Swedish organizations' own translations of their names into English, to render Sveriges as Swedish. Thus:

  • Sveriges Advokatsamfund = The Swedish Bar Association
  • Sveriges Järnvägsmuseum = Swedish Railway Museum
  • Sveriges Lantbruksuniversitet = The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences
  • Sveriges Meteorologiska och Hydrologiska Institut = Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute
  • Sveriges Riksbank = Swedish National Bank

etc. etc.

See also, for example, the English-language homepage of Sveriges Utbildningsradio, which terms itself "Swedish Educational Broadcasting".

This works both ways, incidentally. For instance, the British Army and the British Grand Prix become Storbritanniens armé and Storbritanniens Grand Prix ("Great Britain's Grand Prix") in Swedish -- Picapica (talk) 13:21, 9 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
