Silesia

[edit]

There is the Discussion page there for discussion, better than "Edit summary". The WWII isn't obvious. Xx236 10:26, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

[edit]

Hi. I didn't know what I stumbled upon when I went and looked at the talk page, saw a comment from this Rex character claiming that Westphalian German had more in common with Austrian German (??), and then wrote something on his talk page saying, "are you kidding?" Then I went and looked at what linked to him and then I read the talk pages for the German language article, and things got pretty heated, mainly because of him. Viz., that he would hear ANYTHING about any mutual comprehensibility or allow it into the article.

Just so you know, I am an American who speaks German pretty well, and have been teaching myself Dutch by reading Dutch newspapers and Dutch Wikipedia. No mutual comprehensibility, my ass.

Good luck.

Carlsbad or Karlovy Vary?

[edit]

See Talk:Karlovy Vary for a vote. -- Matthead discuß!     O       00:00, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Karlovy Vary

[edit]

Carlsbad is a spelling of german variant Karlsbad, according WP:NCGN Karlovy Vary is perfectly correct. I think you can't imagine how offensive is renaming czech cities to its german equivalents. Or should we call Montreal as Mont Royal ? Do you have any objection against move Montreal to Mont Royal ? ≈Tulkolahten≈≈talk≈ 09:19, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Argument that it is YOUR wikipedia is very unwikipedian. ≈Tulkolahten≈≈talk≈ 14:09, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted userbox

Hello Antman. I have deleted User:Antman/AntiRex as an attack box. It was pretty old and didn't link to anything, but if you still have a problem with User:Rex Germanus, please message him and remember to be civil and assume good faith. Thanks, Fang Aili talk 21:52, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cooperation

[edit]

"I know that we have had our disagreements in the past, particularly because of our very different viewpoints as to many things which tend to cause conflict, however, I hope that in the future and from hence forth, we can work together to improve Wikipedia, and create reasonable compromises on the various articles that tend to be creating conflict between the different groups present on Wikipedia... it is becoming very tiring for quite a few of the articles to be in a state of endless edit-war, when in the end I don't really believe that either side is right. The feeling's mutual, can I call you Mrówa?

It means a Big Bad Ant, Bad Ass Insect, The Baddest Hymenopter in the Hood. It's a very cool nickname. Ask my homies. Space Cadet 22:15, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I've noticed your request on WP:WQA. Just thought I'd tell you that the month is March and not February. Not a big deal; I have moved them to the bottom of the page. Cheers, Tuxide 23:56, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

English Wikipedia

[edit]

I would be happy to use your own argument against Carlsbad/Karlovy Vary as you used in case of Konrad of Wallenrode/Conrad of Wallenrode [1]. ≈Tulkolahten≈≈talk≈ 14:46, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Carlsbad is a historical name that was widely used in English; Konrad von Wallenrode is also a historicla name that was widely used. We don't say Henry Himmler in English. Antman -- chat 19:44, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And we don't say Carlsbad. ≈Tulkolahten≈≈talk≈ 19:47, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What a Czech says in relation to what an American or an Englishman says is irrelevant on the English Wikipedia. You also say Praha and Plzen; we don't. Antman -- chat 19:50, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Do you know, that von means of ? I would be happy to hear some other native speaker, who is not self-claimed german imperial patriot. ≈Tulkolahten≈≈talk≈ 20:15, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And surprisingly, we usually keep the 'von' in proper names. We don't say Otto of Bismarck, we say Otto von Bismarck. Antman -- chat 20:36, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
We also don't say Henry Himmler, we say Heinrich Himmler. Antman -- chat 20:47, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wait a second, there's a difference between the modern German von in proper names of nobility, and the medieval von marking provenance. My understanding is that the latter is indeed often (though not always) translated to of in English, just as its counterparts in other languages are. We have Bernard of Clairvaux (not Bernard de Clairvaux), etc. Fut.Perf. 06:46, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
But some of his changes were ridiculous, like using ONLY English first names. I again point to the fact that he was changing 'Heinrich' to Henry, hence "Henry Himmler". Antman -- chat 06:06, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rex' user page

[edit]

Antman, please watch it. There's no reason for you to keep posting those hostile messages on Rex' user page, like [2], and [3]. Rex has asked you to keep off his page ([4]); continuing this despite his wishes is "kicking them while they are down", and harassment. Please don't. Fut.Perf. 06:46, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

SWGEmu

[edit]

I did not delete the SWGEmu article, I merely recommended that it be deleted. I did this because I could not find any reliable sources that talk about the project. There are web hits for forums, true, as well as multiple hits from within the SWG community, but no sources that meet Wikipedia's guidelines. There is no magic number of google hits that confers notability, as you seem to indicate - it's about the sources provided. In this case, there were none. The comparison to other articles with less notability doesn't impact the deletion, either - see WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. The AFD reviewed this article, not others. You're going to want to look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/SWGEmu (3rd nomination), which shows that User:Ron Ritzman was the deleting admin - you can take up the question with him, if you like, or file a request at Deletion Review. Sorry for any confusion. Best, UltraExactZZ Said ~ Did 18:42, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Move rules

[edit]

If you want to move an article from its original name you have to start a proper discussion and proper research. You did not follow these rules. I assure you that per naming rules the term is Nysa Klodzka in modern naming.--MyMoloboaccount (talk) 01:22, 9 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • You have also failed to account research into the modern English nomenclature for the river. Why is there a 'Nysa' -and- a 'Neisse', when one is a tributary of the other? I attempted to start a discussion, but no one seemed interested in discussing. Your assurances do not qualify as valid research, quite the opposite in fact.
