Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Wikipedia:Rfp)
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: The page has had a significant level of IP vandalism/unsourced additions for a while now. Also the subject of a possible transfer so is likely to attract more unconstructive editing Michaeldble (talk) 22:21, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Done Gave it 2 weeks. Can revisit after if problems recur. Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 22:27, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: The page has had a consistent level of IP vandalism for a while now - would suggest a longer protection Michaeldble (talk) 22:23, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Done I gave it ten days. Can revisit with longer if continues Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 22:25, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-Protection: Constant incorrect edits based on rumors and probably on fandom preference. The actress hasn’t confirmed a relationship with actor Fred Hechinger so it shouldn’t say they’re dating based only on paparazzi photos. Jvlslvr (talk) 23:21, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Done as part of ARBPIA Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 22:30, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing, including possible sockpuppetry. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 01:29, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Done I've given it 3 weeks, we'll see if the problem persists afterwards. Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 22:34, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Obvious abuse of multiple accounts. Cysquatch (talk) 03:09, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Done given it 10 days Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 22:37, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Done tweaked protection now Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 22:39, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite full protection: Persistent vandalism – This is the user page of a banned user, which is being targeted by WP:LTA/HR socks gaming extended-confirmed permission to vandalise this EC-protected page. As this page belongs to a user who was banned more than four years ago, I think we should just apply indef full protection so that the LTA vandal has less things to do. — AP 499D25 (talk) 06:06, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

User(s) blocked: Dr. Ashley Schimmel (talk · contribs) blocked by PhilKnight. indef and globally locked. Daniel Case (talk) 04:30, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Daniel Case I know it's just one user for the time being, but check out History of the chair for another page that has been targeted by this same LTA, which they've been at it with numerous EC-gamed sock accounts over a period of a week now. So I have no doubt they'll come back whenever they have the opportunity to, and vandalise the page more. — AP 499D25 (talk) 05:24, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As I told you or whoever it was, indef full is just not something I feel comfortable doing without a fuller discussion at AN or somewhere like that giving it consensus. Daniel Case (talk) 05:27, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Filmssssssssssss (talk) 13:07, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Daniel Case (talk) 04:53, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High level of IP vandalism. Notable alumni from the school's post-1980s being removed discriminately. HM2021 (talk) 13:13, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Not much editing over the past couple of years. Daniel Case (talk) 04:54, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring. Continued editwarring on infobox image, open discussion on talk page. - FlightTime (open channel) 15:31, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If we full-protect it, it will mean that when that full protection expires all protection will end as it is not currently possible to layer two levels of protection. I can set a W-Ping to reset it, but this will likely mean there will be some period where the article is completely unprotected. Would you be OK with this possibiility? Daniel Case (talk) 05:14, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High level of IP vandalism that changes the location to Cambridgeshire despite maps listing this place being in Bedfordshire. QUICKWITTEDHARE CONVERSE 18:28, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Increasing number of disruptive IP edits within the past 24 hours, making changes contrary to a highly reliable source. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 18:57, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. No edits in over a year. Daniel Case (talk) 05:35, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High level of IP vandalism (edit warring). Mzwanele Manyi is senior member of South African parliament and is a controversial, South African, political figure. His public profile is linked to his credibility which needs to be protected from unbalanced and inaccurate commentary. Mzansiknightsa (talk) 19:34, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. It was bad at the end of July, but seems quieter now. Daniel Case (talk) 05:36, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring. Dawnseeker2000 21:24, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'll just drop a note here as User:Daniel Case comes by. I've actually started (or resumed, rather) a discussion on the article talk page here regarding the disputed content, and invited all involved editors to it. So far I got all the editors to join in the talk page discussion except for User:Stabwed, who is the only one constantly restoring their edit on the page without engaging in any discussion at all. I've noticed two things about that account, namely:
    1. it is a recently created account and its only (and first) edits were to restore that disputed version of the article. They've not made any edits to other articles or even other parts of the article whatsoever.
    2. They have not been warned or informed on their talk page about the edit-warring policy
I don't know of any sock farms out there who could be doing this kind of stuff to this particular article, so I'm going to assume good faith here and think that this is just a new user who started editing Wikipedia after noticing a big part went missing on an article that they read frequently. So, I've given them an edit-warring warning (the softer one, i.e. uw-ewsoft) and hopefully they will notice and read what I've said there. — AP 499D25 (talk) 05:35, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary pending changes: Persistent vandalism – Subject recently won the US Open, and as such her article is receiving a lot of vandalism. Hard to keep up with it all.  — Mr. Guye (talk) (contribs)  22:35, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Declined It's over now. Daniel Case (talk) 05:56, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinate semi-protection: The page is already protected until 2122, which does not make any sense to protect a page for 100 years only for it to not be protected when that 100 years has passed. I think an Indefinate semi protection would be best. 142.114.181.79 (talk) 07:09, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: A user with a red nickname constantly deletes information from the source, adding information without a source Dushnilkin (talk) 07:17, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: Create protection is no longer required because the page will be redirected to Royal Match. The company is not notable enough for its own article, but is best known for its creation of the game. This is the result of an AFC/R request. Original administrator has not been active since April, and a timely response is unlikely. Garsh (talk) 22:27, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Protected for over a decade. However, both of the page protectors are likely inactive. Consider downgrading protection level and set a time limit?102.106.191.176 (talk)

Question: Agree the disruption that led to the AfD being protected has long since ceased. But curious why anyone would need to edit this closed AFD from 2011. The deleted article title (VIBES FM Hamburg) is not protected so is theoretically available for recreation if the subject has since become notable. -- Euryalus (talk) 06:48, 8 September 2024 (UTC) Euryalus (talk) 06:48, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: There's no reason to edit it, so why unprotect it? - Sumanuil. (talk to me) 07:10, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Let me ask you this then: why won't you at least let EC users fix Linter Errors in case if they notice any?102.106.191.176 (talk) 07:20, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Does it have any? - Sumanuil. (talk to me) 07:26, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
