Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome!

And well done for creating Angela Sarkis too! -- Graham ☺ | Talk 09:42, 10 Nov 2004 (UTC)

User name

[edit]

From any page in wikipedia, go to preferences (the link should be near your username), and in "your nickname" type whatever name you would prefer to appear. The smiley is a special character, feel free to nick it if you want.

You can also get a link to your talk page to appear by putting a special bit of jiggery pokery into that nickname field. An example would be Marie ☺]] | [[User talk:Marie Rowley|Talk which you can play around with to get your desired effect. Different people use different colours, different fonts, pictures, it's even possible to get a link to your website into your sig!

Have fun experimenting. -- Graham ☺ | Talk 00:16, 11 Nov 2004 (UTC)

I think you need to try that again...! -- Graham ☺ | Talk 00:21, 11 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Oh I see you've done it now... -- Graham ☺ | Talk 00:22, 11 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Teehee sorry about that!--[[User:Marie Rowley|Marie | Talk]] 00:23, 11 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Stub?

[edit]

Hello Marie, I'm not too sure why you have put stub on the article - but then I'm relatively new at this. Is there a rule about length or something? I thought that what I put pretty nearly covered all that needed to be said about a fairly small corner of this scepter'd isle!!! But I'd be grateful for guidance for the future Peter Shearan 07:56, 23 Nov 2004 (UTC)

A good way to check if this is a notable enough subject, is to use google. Google:Franklin Income Fund brings up about 4,000 hits for those words in that combination, and most of them are advertising. The next step is to list it on Wikipedia:Votes for deletion. Go to the bottom of theat page and follow the directions for listing pages. If you get lost or are still a bit stuck ask and I'll see what I can do to help.

PS what's your user name on livejournal? -- Graham ☺ | Talk 23:19, 23 Nov 2004 (UTC)

For vfd consensus (generally the same consensus used in most other places of wikipedia) take a look at the deletion policy. It's two-thirds consensus, meaning that for a decision to stick, two thirds of the people placing votes have to agree with it. If it doesn't meet two-thirds majority on vfd, it doesn't get deleted - even if the majority of people are saying delete it. Thanks by the way for your livejournal name, I'll nip across and add you to my friends list when I have a sec (I'm at work at the moment, but if you want to see my peofile in the meantime my user name is Francs2000 on livejournal too.) -- Graham ☺ | Talk 17:16, 24 Nov 2004 (UTC)

VFD

[edit]

Hia, I've fixed up your VFD for Franklin Income Fund, please note you need to include your VFD subpage into the main VFD page using {{Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/...}} (not {{subst:Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/...}}) and you should make a link of the article name in the header. Last but not least: Welcome to wikipedia, good to have you on board! --fvw* 01:52, 2004 Nov 24 (UTC)

Blocking

[edit]

Yes we can block people from editing here, if they prove to be persistent vandals. However only admins (people who have been around for a bit and have proved that they're fairly trustworthy) can block someone - if you see any more in the future and want to alert others to it use Wikipedia:Vandalism in progress. -- Graham ☺ | Talk 18:32, 2 Dec 2004 (UTC)

John Sparks

[edit]

Hi, I want to apologise for mistakenly redirecting your John Sparks article. I mixed him up with John Sparkes the comedian, but I've moved the article back now, so everything should be as you left it. Deb 17:51, 3 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the compliment! Deb 17:12, 4 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Governors of Nevada

[edit]

I'm sorry, I don't really have any good sources either. Here's some of the only sources I can find: The Political Graveyard may help you a little bit, it has all the political history, but doesn't necessarily tell you what each person did as Governor. Congressional Biograpical Directory gives you more information but only covers the people who have served in Congress. I suggest that you can also use some books to find information, like a book on the history of Nevada. --Lst27 (talk) 00:41, 9 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[edit]

Hello
I see that you have added charts to some governors. I would like to inform you that External Link should actually be External links. Because the L (of the 'Link') in External Link shouldn't be capitalized.

So instead of ==External Link== it should be ==External links==
[[User:Squash|Squash (Talk)]] 04:36, Dec 11, 2004 (UTC)

Sorry If I didn't mention this earlier what in additional that External Link decapitalization. I see that you have done that correctly :). You also need to indent the external links with an asterisk * like this

Example:

Hello! I've noticed your past interest in Wikipedia:Mind Benders and wanted to share the following announcement with you! I've taken over the responsibilities of Mind Benders, and the page will now be regularly updated. Right now, the pre-round is open (it's more of a creative artistic competition), and round one will open soon (the questions are done, we just need to wait for the pre-round to begin/finish)! So why not check it out? I'll keep you updated! Thanks, Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk 01:25, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

P.S. Feel free to pass this news on to other Wikipedians.

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Marie Rowley! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 58 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:
