Re: "According to the old custom..." - where does the quote come from? Shouldn't it be attributed? sheridan 11:21, 2005 May 26 (UTC)

SedgefieldSedgefield, England — The page for "Sedgefield, Western Cape" refers to a town in South Africa of approximately the same size, therefore both towns merit equally descriptive headings. 196.210.231.110 (talk) 09:55, 7 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose Cant see the need for this. Similar thing going on with Durham and Durham, North Carolina with a long discussion on their talk pages. This is the Sedgefield from which Sedgefield, Western Cape got its name and this article has been at this name since 2003. I cant see a problem with the current setup. It's certainly a case if if it aint broke dont fix it as far as im concerned.Fraggle81 (talk) 20:02, 7 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose There may well be an argument that the Sedgefield in England is not the primary use of Sedgefield. However, any move request should be in accordance with Wikipedia:Naming conventions (geographic names). The naming convention for England is that settlements go under Placename, Ceremonial County, not Placename, Country. Any move should therefore be to Sedgefield, County Durham. However, I think that a reasonable case could be made that this is the primary topic, considering that it had a larger borough named after it, and was the constituency of Tony Blair, the United Kingdom's former prime minister, and therefore received considerable international attention. Just as a side note to this discussion, page views between 6/2009 and 6/2010 for Sedgefield were 13588 page views with an average 1132 per month. and for Sedgefield, Western Cape over the same period were 1670 page views with an average 139 per month.Fraggle81 (talk) 16:43, 9 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Such a proposal would lead to the renaming many parishes in United Kingdom where there now seems to be an implicit (accepted?) rule of primacy. billinghurst sDrewth 07:19, 15 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sports

[edit]

I have tidied up and slightly expanded the sports section. The old version was driving me crazy, and appeared like a stilted list of things. It isn't brilliant, and there are no sources (yet) and I would encourage anybody to add more where it would give some body.

There is a bowls club in the town, but I don't know anything about it, and if a representative of the Sedgefield Wednesday Morris Team could perhaps provide a paragraph or two, following the lead already given. Thanks. Roxy the dog (talk) 17:18, 20 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Information on the Winterton Church

[edit]

Hi I'd like to suggest adding a line about what has happened to the Winterton church. I'd welcome any contributions from people and ideas.

Perhaps on main page something along the lines of, Current statement: Today little trace is left of the hospital apart from the church which is now surrounded by the Winterton housing estate and the NETPark Science park

New statement:

Today little trace is left of the hospital apart from the church (now converted into a gym) which is now surrounded by the Winterton housing estate and the NETPark Science park.

Then perhaps a little more about the actual facts of the change on the Winterton hospital stub.

Welcome any comments.

Thanks. GaryG1612 (talk) 09:05, 31 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
