Use of "as yet"

I find this ridiculous:

A "floating island" in fiction (sometimes called a "flying island"), is a (as yet) fictitious landmass that flies above the surface of the earth (or in some cases throught the depths of space), defying gravity because they really float in air.

As yet? AS YET?? Talk about a non-committal author. Andyqaz October 24, 2005

Shouldnt we merge this with Floating Cities?

I don't think so. And only partly because it I don't find such an article. Vincecate 10:50, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There should be some link to Pumice Rafts (Floating lava/sand on the oceans). Fxprojectsmusiclab 27 July 2007

Surprised there is no reference to Darwin mention of floating Islands in Tagua tagua Chile. Paulatepc (talk) 23:00, 31 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ancient myths

[edit]

Should we incorporate things like this here, or make new articles? --Magnus Manske 17:29, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I rather keep mythical stuff in other articles. Vincecate 01:11, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

D-Day islands

[edit]

The artificial-islands used in the D-Day landings are worth a mention.

The Mulberry Harbours? If you want to mention that they were long floating breakwaters, docks and causeways, forming a man made harbour, and nothing like an island, then yes, go ahead.... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.150.85.41 (talk) 15:54, 4 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Alcatraz Floats?

[edit]

Being the natural born skeptic that I am, Id love to see some kind of sourcing re: Alcatraz being a floating island that was anchored there by the Corps of Engineers. I tried looking for some myself and have been hard put...is this just an urban legend or is it for real? r_parker_jr (talk) 17:50, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's total bunkum. I've deleted it. --Gene_poole (talk) 05:55, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Louisiana floating islands

[edit]

As a young man I have spent some time on a floating island in Bayou Gauche, LA. At first I didn't even realize that I was on a floating island of several acres with trees and other vegatation usually found rooted on land. It was only later that I realized that wind had begun to move the island across the pond I was fishing in. It's a good thing I had arrived by boat or I would have been stranded for awhile. This was on a large pond, it would be a lake in most states. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TJS323626 (talkcontribs) 14:14, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
