It was a Microsoft affiliate (Baby Bills) from the start. The guy who started it was a former M$ employee —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.51.21.41 (talkcontribs) 2 April 2005

Teledesic was never a Microsoft affiliate. It was initially named "Calling Communications" under the leadership of Ed Tuck (who was never a Microsoft employee). As Calling Communications the team did the early designs for the system operations, constellation/satellites, and ground systems. The Calling Communications team also did the initial, early legwork on getting the worldwide spectrum for the system. With those conceptual designs and spectrum processes in hand, Ed Tuck was able to get both Craig McCaw and Bill Gates to each *personally* invest $6 million into the project. Lots of other investors were involved, but they were the two highest profile investors. With the new investments the company was restructured and renamed "Teledesic".TheShadowself (talk) 18:00, 11 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
