Is sex-reassignment different than sex-change operation? If it isn't, the term should be changed. 23skidoo 17:02, 26 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I think they are the same. I believe the "politically correct" term is sex-reassignment surgery (SRS). Bgoldnyxnet 03:32, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merger Proposal

[edit]

Jean Marie Stine is an M2F transsexual who was born Henry Stine. I see no point in having two separate bio pages for the same person. Bgoldnyxnet 15:53, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Previous discussion
[edit]

I have a question about Wikipedia usage standards. The "Hank Stine" page refers to Hank as a "nom de plume" of Jean Marie Stine. This is, perhaps, excessively coy. The relationship between Hank and Jean Marie Stine is exactly the same as that between Walter and Wendy Carlos: Jean Marie Stine is an M2F transsexual who was born Henry Stine. So I would appreciate some help in editing this page to more reasonably reflect the situation, without unneccessarily offending Jean Marie. I believe it was JM herself who wrote the phrase in question (actually, I think she originally wrote "nom de guerre"). Bgoldnyxnet 05:19, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have wikified the two names "Hank Stine" and "Jean Marie Stine". I'm trying to understand the relevance of "Walter and Wendy Carlos" - who are they and are they transexuals or similar, and are they actually relevant to what you're asking? And so what you're actually asking is help with editing the article Hank Stine to better reflect the situation. I'm still not clear on the situation: Is Hank Stine Jean Marie Stine or not? Rfwoolf: Yes, Wendy Carlos was born a man, named Walter - just as Jean Marie Stine was born a man, named Hank. I think you could handle the situation similarly here; state that Jean Marie was "born Hank Stine". Perhaps I'm being insensitive to LGBT cultural issues, but that seems innocent enough to me. I agree that "nom de plume" or "pseudonym" are not the best terms. In fact, I think these two articles could be merged. Hoof Hearted 14:15, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I think Rfwoolf is right, the thing to do is to merge them. NExt time I have a spare hour... Is there a special protocol for merging two articles? Or do I just put the info from "Hank Stine" into appropriate spots in "Jean Marie Stine" and turn "Hank Stine" into a Forward? Bgoldnyxnet 03:30, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you'd like to get a greater consensus, you may want to place a {{merge to}} template on this article and see if anyone responds over the next week or so. Otherwise, you can be bold and proceed with the merge now. See WP:MERGE for detailed instructions, but it sounds like you understand the basic process.
