Peter destroyed Michael / Barrie corresondence

[edit]

Birken's book details that Peter destroyed about 2000 letters between Barrie and Michael that had commenced on a daily basis while Michael was unhappy at Eton, and continued until Michael drowned at Oxford. Barrie was posting another letter to Michael when a reporter told him about the drowning. Peter said something like "It's all just too much" as the reason he destroyed the letters.

Btw, it is not clear in the article as to what "this terrible masterpiece" is. Myles325a (talk) 07:49, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've clarified what the "terrible masterpiece" was. Are you simply suggesting the info about PLD destroying JMB & MLD's correspondence be added to the article, or did you have some point to make about it? -Jason A. Quest (talk) 13:42, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Surname

[edit]

I have trouble knowing what his surname is: Llewelyn Davies, or just Davies. His mother took the married name "Llewelyn Davies", so that was certainly her surname. Yet, we refer to Peter, her son, as just "Davies", and defaultsort him under just Davies. Can anyone advise me about this? -- Jack of Oz [your turn] 02:23, 24 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The short answer is: that's how he and his family referred to themselves. As I understand it, Llewelyn was not legally part of the family name; it was something Peter's ancestors just started using, perhaps to distinguish themselves from some other Davies family, but in everyday conversation, they'd refer to themselves as simply the "Davies family". Peter (who didn't like the attention the double surname drew) gave his children the single surname Davies. -Jason A. Quest (talk) 12:37, 24 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
