Blattellidae now subfamily of Ectobiidae: Blattellinae?

[edit]

Should this page be moved to a page called Blattellinae? http://blattodea.speciesfile.org/Common/basic/Taxa.aspx?TaxonNameID=1174511 Happy1892 (talk) 02:51, 20 March 2014 (UTC)Happy1892Happy1892 (talk) 02:51, 20 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm an amateur, so take this for what it's worth, but the page you linked doesn't say that Blattellidae is a subfamily of Ectobiidae; the only appearance of the term is in the sentence "Type genus: Blattella Caudell, 1903; priority for family-group names based on Blattella dates from Blattellidae Karny, 1908". If you look at the page on "family Ectobiidae Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1865" from the same site, it lists "Blattellidae Karny, 1908" as a synonym. ITIS lists Blattellidae as a family but does not list Ectobiidae. EOL lists Ectobiidae as the "German Cockroach" family and Blattellidae as the "Wood Cockroach" family. Like many areas of taxonomy, there are competing views; I tend to leave questions like this to people with better knowledge of entomological taxonomy issues. (Which sounds like you're doing too, by asking rather than changing). There are definitely areas within Wikipedia's entomology articles that can benefit from a careful amateur researcher's help, but choosing between different classifications seems particularly complicated.
