Pronunciation

[edit]

"Vosges" is rather pronounced with a long [o]. The few online references I've found have it: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5]. Korg (talk) 17:47, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

– In English, the primary topic for "Vosges" is clearly the mountain range. That's what people are referring to when they talk about "the Vosges". Not many are familiar with French department names. For example, of the 410,000 Google Book hits for "the Vosges", the first page lists 10 books all referring to the mountains ("Trekking in the Vosges and Jura", "The Vosges Mountains Campaign", "The Watering Places of the Vosges", "In the Heart of the Vosges", "The Rhine: including the Black Forest and the Vosges", "The Country of the Vosges", etc. Also as I go through the links to Vosges, if you exclude the administrative units within the Vosges department, most of them refer to the mountain region. • Support Even in French, it's not sure the department would be the wp:primarytopic if one was going by en.wiki's rules; it'd most probably would be a dab. (it is one on fr.wiki, which is much more tolerant of dab pages, for better or for worse depending on one's opinion). walk victor falk talk 17:10, 15 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
