Bored?

Nowadays you'll mostly sparsely find me on WP:FPC where I'm not putting discussions on my watchlist anymore to keep that thermometer down :-).

WikiMiniAtlas displaying the KML data attached to the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal article (blue line) and the Coordinate points from the article (blue dots).

My greatest pride is the WikiMiniAtlas Javascript plugin to embed GoogleMaps like draggable maps in every geocoded Wikipedia article (see screenshot to the right). Check the installation instructions to try it out!

The map features AJAX to display markers with WikiLinks to other geocoded articles. This means you can now browse Wikipedia spatially.

Apart from the simple outline map, you can browse Landsat imagery down to a sub 100m resolution. Or you can display daily updated satellite data to check weather conditions all over the globe (coverage may vary).

Every clickable coordinate is decorated with a blue globe icon which upon clicking reveals a map of the location. Check it out on List of impact craters on Earth.

The HighlightRedirects Javascript Extension checks all links on a page and colors them green if they point to redirect pages.

Google Maps MediaWiki extension

[edit]

Check out this page for a demo of my new GMap Google Maps extension.

This extension lets you embed an arbitrary amount of fully interactive Google Maps objects into your wikipages. The mapcontrols appear when you move the mouse over the map, and disappear when you leave it. A helper widget is available wich outputs current coordinates and zoom-level on click, making it easy to choose a map locaton to display.
