Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Wikipedia:RPP)
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Temporary semi-protection: Request extension of protection. Due to end in two days, but individual has just been criminally charged in relation to ongoing allegations. Likely to cause resurgence of IP editing that justified initial protection request. Rambling Rambler (talk) 15:10, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedPages are not protected preemptively. CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 18:39, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Anonymous IPs have been repeatedly editing the page to remove "political woke ideology" (reference to same-sex relationships), and in doing so introducing multiple errors in content, form, and referencing. This is making the page less usable as well and undermining WP:NPOV and WP:No queerphobia. AmityCity (talk) 17:49, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Sorry, but activity is simply too low for protection at this time, even with a CTOP enhancement. El_C 19:48, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Makes sense, thanks. Will just keep an eye on the page given it's been infrequent. AmityCity (talk) 21:36, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Constant disruption on these pages with a user reverting me and another editor. Noorullah (talk) 17:59, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    User(s) blocked. User talk:Muydivertido#Partial blocks. El_C 19:44, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Constant disruption on these pages with a user reverting me and another editor. This page is similarly disrupted to Alauddin Husain Shah by the same editor. Noorullah (talk) 18:00, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    User(s) blocked. User talk:Muydivertido#Partial blocks. El_C 19:45, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: For the increase of the semi-protection from Vandalism NSAandGCHQ (talk) 21:19, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Isabelle Belato 🏳‍🌈 21:27, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Three seemingly different editors in the last 12 hours. SSSB (talk) 22:25, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: Talk:Israel–Hamas war should be non-protected because it is a talk page for a high-profile page it is okay if the article israel-hamas war stays extended-conformed-protected but ip editors should have somewhere to make at least edit requests to the article

This was protected as Arbitration enforcement and cannot be unprotected at this venue. You also are not allowed to be editing in this area in the first place outside of edit requests.Jéské Couriano v^_^v threads critiques 17:45, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: The transfer of the player to his new club is now officially complete, the speculations of which was the main reason for the disruptive editing and why I initially requested the page to be protected. Vasil3fonov (talk) 18:45, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

In "Early life and education", the article says "In 2003 she enrolled at the University of Mississippi". The source for that paragraph as archived (https://archive.ph/ek0sE) states that she "dropped out for good in 2001".

I suggest changing "In 2003 she enrolled..." to something like "She enrolled at the University of Mississippi, studying journalism and political science and writing for The Daily Mississippian, but left the school in 2001." Or of course, add a source for her enrolling in 2003. Elizabeth Internet (talk) 06:56, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

To add a section with the template {{edit protected}}: To add "Hong Kong since 27 July 2024" to the first paragraph of the article, based on the following sources: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]. 119.237.212.104 (talk) 14:53, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This page guides the user on how to Publish Changes, how to Mark Editing as Minor, and how to add the page to a user's Watchlist. The screenshot on this page (shown below), does not show options for marking the edits as minor or adding the page to a Watchlist, as the screentshot might be an older version of the "Save your changes" dialog box.

I request you to update the screenshot to show the current version of the "Save your changes" dialog box. A version of that screenshot can be found here, however, that screenshot uses a red rectangle to focus on marking your edits as minor.

    A few final thoughts:

    - Both this page and its Talk or Discussion page are protected for my user account. Thus, submitting the request here.
    - If I can be given adequate permissions, I can create the updated screenshot and update the page.
    - This tutorial page is fantastic. Thank you for making it.
    - The page is classified as "High-Importance" mostly because it is the first Help article a new user sees when they click on their username. WordLunch (talk) 15:12, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Add: "Others are unable to seek gender-affirming care due to its illegality in their country of residence or fear of backlash" After: "Some cannot undergo them for financial or medical reasons." Joxanis (talk) 20:47, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Joxanis: Talk:Transgender is not protected so far as I can tell. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v threads critiques 20:49, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
