Personal life

[edit]

Very little about his personal life on here, aside from his upbringing.

For example, when was Ben Cullum born relative to Jamie? 86.146.250.175 (talk) 21:13, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Music pirate?

[edit]

Jamie Cullum "has admitted to being an ethical music pirate" (http://torrentfreak.com/jamie-cullum-admits-to-being-an-ethical-music-pirate-091223). Does this deserve a mention in the article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.52.246.37 (talk) 12:09, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Des and Mel?

[edit]

I removed the Des and Mel bit. It seems phoney, and, although iMDB can confirm that he did appear in the show, I can't find any reference to his int'l sales increasing "ten-fold," which sounds a bit far-fetched. The bit also says that it was a Christmas special on April 6th, which just baffles me. If it's legit, I apologize, and please go ahead and revert the article and say something here.--Mottad 15:51, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fascinating Rhythm

[edit]

I have an Europian version of Catching Tales which does not feature Fascinating Rhythm. The article says that the French version doesn't feature it also. Maybe only the UK version features this song, but I'm not sure. Someone should clarify that. -- Babycham 16:50, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Someone should mention on the article that he was on the Handsome Boy Modeling School cd called White People. The track "Greatest Mistake" features him and John Oats, its good stuff.

Lots about album

[edit]

I noticed there is a lot of information about the album Catching Tales in this article. Would it be appropriate to remove that from this page and place it in the article about the album? Locano 17:16, 26 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's probably good to keep the information in both articles. ~ Rollo44 08:21, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Concerts

[edit]

This page should include his abilities to perform live ala the who's page and list and describe his concert segment like his piano clapping and "Songs I heard on the radio" and his jokes and his stage jumping. I could go on. So could a dedicated fan and well skilled wiki editor please deal with this issue. I would do it but I have only seen one of his concerts. I know wiki frowns on opinions, but he rocks.

Jamie also had a concert in Tulln (Austria). Morris Munroe 16:27, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unencyclopedic

[edit]

This article is really WP:POV and unenyclopedic, someone should change it. DanCrowter 09:44, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Neutrality

[edit]

I feel the article is, as DanCrowter mentions above, unencyclopedic, but more specifically it is lacking in neutrality. Phrases such as "Many cite Cullum's gigs as indescribable, but most agree it's an eclectic experience" are unverified and are pure opinion. TheDingbat 18:36, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed - profoundly lacking in neutrality. Indeed the whole paragraph quoted from above seems ripe for elimination on POV grounds. The article's repeated references to Cullum's music being 'firmly rooted in Jazz' are more baffling than anything else; actually it's firmly rooted in pop, with a swing-band backing him up. It's about as 'jazz' as Norah Jones. Xyster 13:14, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely some lack of neutrality. But Jamie's performance style is most certainly rooted in jazz. Lest we forget pop means "popular" and therefore is almost not a genre at all. Norah Jones has little knowledge of the word 'improvisation', whereas Jamie's live shows thrive on this. As the article correctly states; he never has a setlist. Improvisation is a huge part of Jazz and what Jazz is about. Certainly he is no Miles Davis and Jamie is influenced by popular music (why else would he cover the likes of the Pussycat Dolls?), but comparisons to Norah Jones are practically an insult if you compare what Jamie is like live and what Norah is like live. I thought the point of Wikipedia was that those who are knowledge about certain articles edit them with correct information? Not those who make badly educated guesses off the back of media hype. Hmm.. Phoemail 15:35, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article is incredibly biased; it sounds more a like a teenager gushing about their favourite artist rather than an encylopedia entry. --roddie digital (talk) 15:57, 29 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Birthplace

[edit]

can anyone clarify Jamie's birth place?

His wiki states Romford, Essex. However, the wiki for Rochford, Essex says that Jamie was born there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kookie21 (talkcontribs) 22:03, 27 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Many sources claim Romford; many others claim Rochford; some only state Essex. Romford and Rochford are over 30 miles apart. Romford has been in Greater London continually since 1965, which includes all of his life. Does anyone have any proof of where he was actually born?Werdnawerdna (talk) 23:13, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Carnegie

[edit]

Hey he played Carnegie Hall for the first time. Please put that in- http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/22/arts/music/22cullum.html?ref=music

Performed with Joy Division?!?!

[edit]

How the hell can he have performed with Joy Division considering Ian Curtis died a year after Cullum was born? --Panzer71 (talk) 10:42, 11 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

His website suggests here that he's only in Europe this summer. You could try asking via the website? Martinevans123 (talk) 15:29, 29 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Great Missenden

[edit]

Cullum's residence in Great Missenden is fully in the public domain, e.g. here's his entry at Companies House. Martinevans123 (talk) 15:22, 29 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
