Sprint Returning to OP

[edit]

It was announced today that Sprint will reconsolodate its world headquarters ocne again in Overland Park. I have slightly edited the businesses section to accomodate this recent change, however it may need some re-wording to make it flow correctly. Please make edits as news comes forward on the business moveKcuello (talk) 21:46, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Metro?

[edit]

I saw that metro was included in overland park's infobox. Overland Park is not the anchor city of the Kansas City, MSA. That is Kansas City, Missouri. Therefore, since it is one of the many cities that make up that area, I have removed the statistic from the infobox, because that implies that Overland Park is the anchor city. Only Kansas City, Missouri, can have that statistic in it's infobox.

Notable people

[edit]

Shouldn't Esmie Tseng be mentioned? Why sigh, cutie pie? 19:32, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes ChristopherMannMcKay 19:51, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If anyone starts a famous/notable residents section, Mamoru Imura is an Japanese inventor and businessman who lived in Overland Park from 2002 to 2006; he is currently living in Kobe, Japan, but still owns a residence in Overland Park, where he stays when visting on business. Demographics

[edit]

User:Sokkerstopper removed a reference in the Demographics section of this article, but did not explain why. I have reverted the removal, and would ask that any reason for removing it be elaborated upon here. Stack 21:26, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sources please

[edit]

Overland Park's sister city is in Germany. Does anyone have proof? Audi152 (talk) 02:38, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, I added a reference from (http://www.opkansas.org/About-Overland-Park/Overland-Park-Sister-City-Bietigheim-Bissingen-Germany). Thanks. Grey Wanderer (talk) 02:42, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Elmhurst, Kansas

[edit]

What is the history of Elmhurst, Kansas, and why does it redirect to OP? I've never heard of the town, is it like Rosedale or Shawnee-Mission or Blue Valley or Stanley , neighborhood names? It appeared on Google Earth.Moonraker0022 (talk) 02:03, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I can't find anything about it, other than a few maps including the google one you mentioned. It is very possible it is a neighborhood name, many of them do appear on google. I'm sure Elmhurst redirects to OP because the coordinates given in the original article were within OP and with such scant (no) sources it did/does not meet WP:Verifiability. Grey Wanderer (talk) 19:10, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Kansas City, Kansas

[edit]

Article implies Kansas City, Kansas is another suburb of Kansas City, Missouri, adjacent to Overland Park. Kansas City, Kansas can hardly be called a suburb, but a separate smaller central city. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.65.34.235 (talk) 03:36, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Overland Park

[edit]

There's a picture of supposedly "downtown Overland Park" to the right of the Culture section...which isn't downtown OP. I would edit one of these in:

http://downtownop.org/wp-content/uploads/FallFest15-998x375.jpg; OR http://downtownop.org/wp-content/uploads/14500182_1204333176290150_1589783362740086203_o.jpg (both found on the downtownop.org website); OR https://shawneemissionpost.com/2016/09/23/overland-park-fall-festival-this-saturday-55142

...but I'm clueless vis-à-vis wiki's image licensing requirements/copyrights. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Algernon333 (talkcontribs) 01:09, 18 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Aerial Image

[edit]

Was there an issue with the upload or is the only image of the city available without license extremely compressed? This seems like it should be a priority to fix or replace the image, this is the first time I've seen a city with such a low quality photo representing it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:1970:54DD:5100:9CFB:D076:8E5D:C6BC (talk) 23:07, 8 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the image and will look for a better one. Thanks. Magnolia677 (talk) 23:17, 8 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Photo in infobox

[edit]
File:DwntwnOPKS.png

I removed this blurry, poor-quality image following the discussion above. User:Smuckola then added the photo back into the article. MOS:IMAGEQUALITY states:

"Use the best quality images available. Poor-quality images—dark or blurry; showing the subject too small, hidden in clutter, or ambiguous; and so on—should not be used unless absolutely necessary."

Please also note that I have nominated this file for deletion.

The input of others would be appreciated. Magnolia677 (talk) 09:27, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

WP:SOFIXIT No input is needed at all. You stubbornly ignored everything I said in my edit message which I didnt need to have said when I repaired your damage, and the situation is perfectly obvious. Nothing you quoted is applicable whatsoever to this obviously useful and accurately distinguiishable image. As the original poster said, just look for an even better aerial photo. All you've done is purely, obliviously, and unapologetically destructive. You broke the page, dumped an irrelevant photo, and wasted time by blithely complaining instead of just doing the one single sole productive act that you said you're perfectly well aware of. Either do that or don't. The end. Edit: or, discover apparent WP:COPYVIO which prompted me to delete it anyway. — Smuckola(talk) 11:35, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Smuckola: I know it can be upsetting when someone removes an edit which you felt was an improvement, but it's important to not lash out and to cope with the change! This is all part of editing Wikipedia. Let's try to work together! I looked through the Commons for a better photo, and found the high-quality image which I added to the article, but which sadly, you removed in order to add back this hideously low-quality photo which reminds me of the inside of a woodchipper. Perhaps you can take a boo on Flickr to see if you can find a copyright-free photo that is high quality, and shows Overland Park is a way you approve? Also, please don't ever bark orders at other editors about what you want, because like me, they will likely care far more about the quality of Wikipedia then they ever will care about what you want. Thanks! Magnolia677 (talk) 16:05, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Inappropriate history

[edit]

I don't believe that the paragraph at the end of the history section regarding the murder at the Jewish community center is appropriate to be placed in the history of a city. It should be removed in my opinion. 2603:8090:C09:ACED:649E:43D6:FF9B:C5D (talk) 03:27, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@2603:8090:C09:ACED:649E:43D6:FF9B:C5D Why do you believe it is inappropriate? It is a major event that occurred in the history of the city. glman (talk) 03:47, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
