This article makes me hungry! It could be mentioned that Peking Duck served in large overseas Chinese communities (like Toronto, Vancouver, San Francisco, etc.) probably serve an authentic style dish, cuz they recruited a lot of top chefs from China, HK, etc. --Madchester 01:07, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I'll confirm that myself and my dining companions were (and are) white Americans; we went to a restaurant which advertised Peking Duck in English. So, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that it was more western style. It was, however, yummy. Novalis 17:26, 14 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Unfrotunately it is difficult to know how authentic the Peking Duck is. most restaurant, even in places where it serve a large Chinese community (such as Vancouver B.C.), it may oriented more toward Hong Kong Chinese, and thus have different serving methods (as mentioned in the article, the three course peking duck is common in Vancouver B.C.)

But no doubt that this is a delicious meal.

"In the US, the health-conscious Americans..." ... I think this is factually incorrect.

What's factually incorrect? There's no statement of fact in what you quoted. 64.111.153.16 (talk) 05:47, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

consistency

[edit]

Spring onions/scallions and hoisin/plum sauce are two that immediately jump out. Any suggestions as to preference?

I prefer scallions to plum sauce, myself. :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.89.176.249 (talk) 20:33, 6 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Why isn't plum sauce mentioned in the article? Sweet bean sauce? Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:59, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Peking Duck or Peking duck

[edit]

Is there some history to explain why the title of this page is "Peking Duck" rather than "Peking duck"? However famous the dish, "duck" is not a proper noun here, and so WP:CAPS would seem to point towards using "duck" rather than "Duck" in the article title? Shall I move it? Grafen (talk) 13:23, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

or Beijing Duck/duck ???. Is Peking still the dominant naming in North America? (after all, this is the English language version) What about Britain? In Australia/NZ at least, I can confirm it's 50/50 and steadily moving towards 'Beijing Duck'. What are the page hits for the 'Beijing Duck' redirect stub compared to the 'Peking Duck' page? As to capitalization, while duck by itself is not a proper noun, it's my understanding that as part of a specific two work combination it is a proper noun. - 58.165.139.170 (talk) 00:08, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've never heard of it referred to as "Beijing Duck" in the United States, even though almost no one--even those who grew up calling the city "Peking"--ever uses that name anymore for the city itself. For the most part, the older names have been retained when it comes to Chinese food. Another example is Cantonese-style Chinese food; we don't call it Guangzhouese. 174.99.95.218 (talk) 05:29, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

can someone also mention on the other ways of doing peking duck like the cantonese way which thinly slices the meat and skin together, and omits the sugar dipping stage... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.239.174.113 (talk) 14:09, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Some Beijing restaurants serving Peking duck.

[edit]

This site lists several recommended Beijing restaurants, including Quanjude Roast Duck Restaurant, and traditional tips on eating the dish. It could make a source for citations in some of those barren spots in the article:

Peking is Yue Chinese

[edit]

The note says it's Mandarin, when it's really Yue Chinese from the middle ages when the dish was invented and that was the dominant dialect of the time. This is deceptive, propaganda and straight up wrong. Colliric (talk) 07:47, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
