McGreevey's decision to resign

[edit]

Untitled

[edit]

McGreevey resigned following Cipel's intention to fill a lawsuit of sexual harassment against him. This is a historical fact! McGreevey's decision came only after the negotiation between the two sides has failed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Truth27 (talkcontribs) 03:13, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No Blackmail

[edit]

"The governor's office had called the Federal Bureau of Investigation, stating that Cipel had sought $5 million in exchange for dropping the suit""

This line imply that the settlement negotiation were inappropriate. It is important to know that the FBI determined that Mr. Cipel did not blackmail McGreevey, and that what occurred was nothing more than standard negotiation between attorneys – such that would occur in any sexual harassment claim. McGreevey's blackmail accusations are nothing more than a public relations maneuver intended to deflect attention from what he did to Golan.

This line or any other language that apply that Mr. Cipel blackmailed McGreevey are defamation and libelous and therefore should not be included in this article at all.

Fairness

[edit]

To say that "He is best known for allegedly having had a sexual encounter with Governor McGreeve" is not jus incorrect but also unfair. The reality was that Mr. Cipel was filing a lawsuit on sexual harassment and sexual assault against governor McGreevey and as a result of that the governor immediately resigns. It is very common in cases of sexual harassment and sexual assault that the predator claim that it was done in consent -- of course most of the time it is not true. If indeed it was done in consent why did McGreevey resign? Politicians never leave their office unless they have been caught in illegal activity and that is most likely what happen to McGreevy when Mr. Cipel was accusing him of sexual harassment and sexual assault. I think that it would only be fair to say that " He is best known as the man who caused Governor McGreevey to resign following his intention to file a lawsuit against him for sexual harassment and sexual assault" This is a fact, it was reported many times in the media this way and is common knowledge. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Truth27 (talkcontribs) 04:16, 30 June 2007

Golan Cipel

[edit]

This is supposed to be the biography of Golan Cipel and not a article on the McGreevey scandal. I think that this article should be dedicated only to Golan Cipel's bio the same way Jim McGreeve has an article with his bio. Cipel and McGreevey have two different versiona therefore I suggest that a separated article on the "McGreevey scandal" will post the two version of these men.

The below text should be the only text for this article:

Golan Cipel was born in Tel Aviv Israel in 1968, and grew up in the city of Rishon LeZion . He served in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) for five years as a naval officer, eventually rising to the rank of lieutenant.

Following his service in the military, Golan held several positions in government. He began his career in 1992 as Parliamentary Aide in the Israeli Parliament, the Knesset, where he was responsible for policy formation, as well as the drafting of legislation. In 1994 he joined the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Chief Information Officer at the Consulate General of Israel in New York , where he was responsible for presenting the Israeli government perspective to the American media and public. In 1999, Mr. Cipel was appointed the spokesperson for the municipality of Rishon LeZion , his hometown and the fourth largest city in Israel .

In 2001, Golan Cipel returned to the United States to work on the gubernatorial campaign of Jim McGreevey. Following the election, Golan was appointed Counselor to the Governor, advising the McGreevey on issues including political strategy, diplomatic affairs, and Jewish community relations. He also served as liaison between the states's various security and law enforcement agencies and the Governor's office.

Golan Cipel holds a BA and MA in communications from the New York Institute of Technology. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Truth27 (talkcontribs) 00:15, 28 April 2007

Aljazeera

[edit]

This line: "Cipel abruptly fled to Israel, inflaming speculation that he might have some involvement with the Israeli intelligence services . [1]." is a defamation. The source is aljazeera who is known to be unreliable. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Truth27 (talkcontribs) 23:54, 27 April 2007

Cipel's version

[edit]

In an interview with the Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz (Thursday, August 19, 2004), Cipel presented his view of events (excerpts):

"...When you are the subject of sexual harassment, you can't just forget about it and run away. I tried...particularly because such a powerful man was involved...The message that I want to give them is that you must not give in or live in denial when you are sexually harassed...He was impressed with the strategic and communication skills that I displayed, and offered me a job in the communications department...I was not, under any circumstances, responsible for internal security under the governor...I was responsible for the relationship between the governor's office and the attorney general who deals with the issue, and also the Department of Homeland Security. For example, when people wanted to arrange a meeting, I was supposed to arrange it. I did not participate in confidential meetings, nor did I receive classified documents...The governor gave me the very high rank of adviser, and that was the salary. I dealt with strategy related to certain projects...when they examined whether or not I am an expert in internal security and terror, the conclusion, of course, was that I am not. I could assist in creating ties with the Israeli government, but my experience in the field is very limited. The governor knew that...I was willing to undergo a security check - I had nothing to hide. However, they finally didn't do it. Given the pressure, the governor decided that I would no longer serve in the security position...I didn't receive a new position. I remained in the former position - without the security aspect. The entire handling of my situation was a continuous failure on the part of the governor's spokesmen...There was an attempt to besmirch my name. I saw my career, that I had worked hard to achieve, in ruins. I was turned from a naval officer into a sailor. Someone found a book of poetry, that I published myself when I was 16, and suddenly they made me into a poet. I became a ridiculous character, 'a sailor/poet', instead of a professional...We had no romantic affair...We talked about women...I knew that he was newly married; his wife was about to give birth. I had no reason to suspect that he was interested in me. I was very innocent...My dream was shattered. The man who was supposed to defend me turned his back on me. He took advantage of my fears and the sensitive position that I was in and fired me. I am convinced that the reason was the acts of harassment that he carried out, and his fear that they would eventually be made public...I felt that I needed to save my own life. I don't believe in giving in...It is frightening to share a story like this with an entire nation, and to expose oneself. But I believe that if I want to return to a normal life, I must make everything open, without shame, even if the face of a powerful man." (Haaretz interview published in English [2]).
