This is a list of characters in the Harry Potter series. They are all characters who have appeared in a Harry Potter-related book by J. K. Rowling.

  • Ravenclaw, Helena – Daughter of Rowena Ravenclaw. Stole and hid her mother's diadem, and became the resident ghost of Ravenclaw House after being killed by the Bloody Baron. Also known as The Grey Lady.
  • Ravenclaw, Rowena – One of the four founders of Hogwarts.
  • Riddle, Delphi – Daughter of Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange who tries to bring Voldemort back to life by fulfilling a prophecy. Incarcerated in the wizard prison Azkaban.
  • Riddle, Mary – Muggle wife of Thomas Riddle, mother of Tom Riddle Sr and grandmother of Tom Marvolo Riddle/Voldemort. Killed by Voldemort.
  • Riddle, Thomas – Muggle husband of Mary Riddle, father of Tom Riddle Sr and grandfather of Tom Marvolo Riddle/Voldemort. Killed by Voldemort.
  • Riddle, Tom Sr – Muggle son of Thomas and Mary Riddle, husband of Merope Gaunt and father of Tom Marvolo Riddle/Voldemort. Killed by Voldemort.
  • Riddle, Tom Marvolo – Slytherin student who became Voldemort.
  • Robins, Demelza – Chaser for the Gryffindor Quidditch team.
  • Rookwood, Augustus – Death Eater and spy in the Department of Mysteries.
  • Rowle, Thorfinn – Death Eater.
  • Runcorn, AlbertMinistry of Magic investigator of alleged Muggle-borns. Impersonated by Harry using Polyjuice Potion.

  • Umbridge, Dolores – Senior Undersecretary to the Minister for Magic, Hogwarts High Inquisitor and temporary Headmistress of Hogwarts. She teaches Defence Against the Dark Arts during Harry's fifth year, and persecutes half-bloods and Muggle-borns under Voldemort. Sentenced to life imprisonment in Azkaban. Umbridge is portrayed by Imelda Staunton in the Harry Potter films.[25]

  • Warren, Myrtle – Muggle-born Ravenclaw student who attended Hogwarts with Tom Riddle.[27] Killed by a basilisk in a bathroom, which she haunts as a ghost after her death. Riddle used her demise to create his first Horcrux. Known to students as "Moaning Myrtle".[28] J. K. Rowling said the inspiration for Myrtle was "the frequent presence of a crying girl in communal bathrooms, especially at the parties and discos of my youth."[29] Myrtle is portrayed by Shirley Henderson in the Harry Potter films.[30]
  • Weasley, Arthur – Muggle-obsessed Ministry of Magic employee and member of the Order of the Phoenix. Husband of Molly Weasley and father of Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred, George, Ron, and Ginny Weasley. Portrayed by Mark Williams in the Harry Potter films.
  • Weasley, Bill – Oldest son of Arthur and Molly Weasley, and Gringotts employee. Married to Fleur Delacour. Portrayed by Domhnall Gleeson in the Harry Potter films.[31]
  • Weasley, Charlie – Second son of Arthur and Molly. Works with dragons in Romania. Member of the Order of the Phoenix.
  • Weasley, Fred – Son of Arthur and Molly and identical twin brother of George Weasley. Beater for the Gryffindor Quidditch team, member of Dumbledore's Army, and co-owner of the joke shop Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes. Killed in the Battle of Hogwarts. Fred is portrayed by James Phelps in the Harry Potter films.[32]
  • Weasley, George – Son of Arthur and Molly and identical twin brother of Fred Weasley. Beater for the Gryffindor Quidditch team, member of Dumbledore's Army, and co-owner of Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes. Married to Angelina Johnson. George is portrayed by Oliver Phelps in the Harry Potter films.[32]
  • Weasley, Ginny – Youngest child and only daughter of Arthur and Molly. Gryffindor student one year below Harry. Seeker and Chaser for the Quidditch team and member of Dumbledore's Army. Married to Harry. Ginny is portrayed by Bonnie Wright in the Harry Potter films.[33]
  • Weasley, Molly – Wife of Arthur Weasley and mother of Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred, George, Ron, and Ginny. Member of the Order of the Phoenix. She is portrayed by Julie Walters in the Harry Potter films.[8]
  • Weasley, Percy – Third son of Arthur and Molly. Gryffindor prefect and Head Boy, then Ministry of Magic employee. He becomes estranged from his family but fights alongside them in the Battle of Hogwarts.
  • Weasley, Ron – Youngest son of Arthur and Molly who is best friends with Harry Potter and Hermione Granger. Gryffindor Quidditch Keeper, prefect, and co-founder of Dumbledore's Army. He is portrayed by Rupert Grint in the Harry Potter films.[34]
  • Wood, Oliver – Gryffindor Quidditch Keeper and captain who is four years above Harry. Wood is portrayed by Sean Biggerstaff in the Harry Potter films.[35]

  • Yaxley, Corban – Death Eater. Head of Magical Law Enforcement under Voldemort.

  • Zabini, Blaise – Slytherin student in Harry's year.

  • Hokey – House-elf belonging to Hepzibah Smith.

  • Kreacher – House-elf belonging to the Black family and later Harry.

  • Magorian – A centaur.
  • Great Aunt Muriel – Great-aunt of the Weasley children.
  • Muggle Prime Minister – The unnamed sitting Prime Minister of the United Kingdom during the events of the novels. He is referred to as the Muggle Prime Minister by wizards. He is aware of the wizarding world and is protected by an Auror.

  • Peeves – A mischievous Hogwarts ghost.
  • Pigwidgeon – A tiny owl belonging to Ron.

  • Scabbers – Ron's pet rat who is actually the wizard Peter Pettigrew.
  • Scabior – Snatcher who captures Harry, Ron and Hermione.

  • The Weird Sisters – A wizarding rock band.
  • Winky – A house-elf who belonged to Barty Crouch Sr until he fired her. She then worked in the Hogwarts kitchen.
