I deleted the sentence "Lin has been cited as an example of extreme political correctness" for two reasons. First, no citation is given as far as I can see. Second, the sentence that followed it — telling how Lin once referred to some French citizens as African Americans — was a non sequitur. To call a non-American an American isn't politically correct: it's simply wrong. If there was evidence that some people believed it to be political correctness then that might justify puttting the two sentences together, but no such evidence appears to be given.

I also deleted "who had been killed" (which referred to the French citizens). "Who had died" would represent a neutral point of view, but in any case the fact that they died is irrelevant to this article.158.109.1.15 (talk) 01:56, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

-- I think the point is that Lin mistakenly referred to two non-Americans as African-Americans in an effort to avoid using any other racial terms that may be considered politically incorrect in the US. Instead of using the term "two black teenagers" her internal self-censorship translated the racial term into the incorrect, but US politically correct, term African-American. It's an example of the ever increasing linguistic difficulties that political correctness introduces; encouraging people to self-censor terms that are claimed as pejoratives, but the replacement term not being a good universal replacement. The point was evident; question is, can it be appropriately sourced? Especially if one is going to use a term that's a characteristic handgrenade of the Culture Wars. 84.203.39.242 (talk) 10:12, 23 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
