Whether or not the decision is fortunate is dependent on your point of view.

No Olympic sport

[edit]

So far dance sport was not given Olympic sport status, so I deleted that category.

Olympics "IDSF and all the DanceSport Athletes are standing at the threshold of a new area. The final aim has not yet reached. We still have to work very intensive and hard for it:" The participation in the Olympic Games. Rudolf Baumann, President IDSF

olympics back in

[edit]

Dancing does have olympic recognition and may be included (see references) but to date has not so I have included this information. Feel free to edit the wording but I feel a discussion of its recognition is important Pebbles (talk)Pebbles —Preceding undated comment was added on 20:36, 20 February 2009 (UTC).[reply]

Byzantine complexity

[edit]

I've rewritten the material on the WDC and the IDSF, with a view to neutrality and reliable references. The complexity of dance organisations is truly byzantine, and even the organisations themselves find it difficult to describe what they do. I will continue to add references as I come across them; there is no encyclopedia of modern ballroom dance, nor a good history of the last 50 years, so articles like this are bound to have problems. Competitive Rock'n'Roll, Boogie Woogie are also dancesport

[edit]

www.wrrc.org/, the World Rock'n'Roll Confederation says on its pages: "The WRRC is the international sport federation governing all aspects of the sports of Rock'n'Roll, Rock'n'Roll Acrobatic, Boogie Woogie, Lindy Hop, Bugg and Doublebug worldwide either directly or through ist national member bodies. The WRRC aims at promoting the physical training of its members by means of sporting activities in the form of Rock’ n Roll dance tournaments, including the acrobatic variations (Rock'n'Roll acrobatic) as well as Rock'n'Roll and Boogie Woogie, Lindy Hop and alternative styles complying with the rules and sporting presentations.

The WRRC is an associated member of the World Dance Sport Federation (WDSF) and via WDSF connected to Sport Accord and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and sports forum of the European Union."

I don't know about other countries, but in Finland, Europe, the above mentioned dances are at least partly under the national dance sport organization.

I think r'n'r and swing dances in their competitive forms belong in the dancesport article. What do you think? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shiokumi (talkcontribs) 23:47, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
