Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Wikipedia:Rfp)
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Talk:Thomas Niedermayer

Temporary pending changes protection: Persistent sockpuppetry. current discussions at wp:ae#78.147.140.112 and wp:ani#User:Kathleen's Bike, one of the involved editors has edited as ip JackTheSecond (talk) 22:58, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. First of all, pending changes protection isn't an option for talk pages. Second, I don't think protecting a talk page is the answer. This one really needs to be handled on WP:SPI or WP:ANI. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 23:18, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would also note that the article isn't protected; it would be rather strange to protect a talk page but not the article it's associated with. Second, this clearly falls under WP:TROUBLES, so I'll put a CTOPS notice on it. Daniel Case (talk) 23:42, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, scratch that last move; ARBTT imposes 1RR and some other things that we're not at the point of yet, I think. Daniel Case (talk) 23:44, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: BLP policy violations – Consistent addition of unsourced BLP. I’m no football expert, but from a quick news search this trade hasn’t happened yet and is just anticipated/desired. MacAddct1984 (talk | contribs) 23:53, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of two weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Johnuniq (talk) 02:31, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Seems to be a LTA target. ABG (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 00:52, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Addition of unsourced content and vandalism across a few different accounts and IPs. λ NegativeMP1 01:55, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite extended-confirmed protection: Persistent editing by IPs and non-EC users in an article in the WP:RUSUKR sanctioned topic area. Flemmish Nietzsche (talk) 02:16, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protected indefinitely. Johnuniq (talk) 02:41, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Virginia Gardner

Reason: 1 month protection for 2.28.232.228 edits without a valid reason. Shkuru Afshar (talk) 02:21, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined @Shkuru Afshar: There are only two edits and they are not vandalism. Please try to engage with the IP by putting a section on article talk with an explanation of the problem and link to that in an edit summary that reverts problematic edits. It's not feasible for admins to get involved in every disagreement and it is necessary that initial attempts be taken by others. Johnuniq (talk) 02:59, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Gap Dream

    Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. C F A 💬 02:41, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@CFA: Please fix the article before requesting protection. Wording such as the following regarding a WP:BLP is not acceptable: "In July of 2020, [person] was included in accusations of sexual assault surrounding Burger Records by the Instagram account [external link]". The reference seems ok which is why I didn't just delete the paragraph. Please take the hint from how the reference described the situation and definitely do not mention or link to an Instagram account. Questions can be asked at WP:BLPN. Johnuniq (talk) 03:07, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Janata Dal (United)

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – It is very difficult to undo the vandalism when someone do not notice it and good additions are some afterwards. I think this page need protection from frequent edit wars by new users with WP:CIR issues. Admantine123 (talk) 02:48, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Brenda Biya

Reason: Biya has recently received international media coverage (see below) over her coming out. She already has an article on the French Wikipedia, which I have translated at Draft:Brenda Biya. Coverage:

    Brianna Wu

Reason: I understand the need for protection with regard to the GamerGate harassment, but she's gone on a radical Zionist bent ever since Oct 7th making increasingly racist/Islamaphobic statements, so much so that's she's been shunned by progressive allies and even began courting members of the far-right who previously slandered her. I feel it's only appropriate that this be reflected in the article. Spymaster Cosades (talk) 17:21, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Spymaster Cosades: And this request underlines precisely why the article is protected. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v threads critiques 19:29, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
