Redirect

[edit]

PiccoloNamek, please do not redirect articles without explanation and discussion. And please do not redirect valid articles at all - especially when you do not merge the information into the redirected page. This article should remain seperate from Spira, as one is an article about Final Fantasy X geography and one about the Final Fantasy X fictional religion - quite separate things. -Erolos 02:21, 18 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I redirected the page because it contains almost the exact same information as the section entitled "The Beginning" in the Spira article. It's redundant to have more than one article about the same subject. Merge the information into the redirected page? Have you even read Spira?

Furthermore, Spira is not about Spirian geography specifically, but rather, about the history of the entire world of Spira itself, from the very beginning to the end of Final Fantasy X-2 (eventually). I redirected this page for the same reason I redirected the Bevelle page; it had redundant information. Unless something can be done to differentiate this page and make it worthy of being a separate article, I believe it should be redirected. The entire purpose of Spira was to have one resource for all of the FFX/X2 backstory, instead of multiple smaller articles with the same or nearly the same information. From what I can tell, the only information on this page that really stands out is the short paragraph on the Hymn of the Fayth.

Regardless, I really dislike conflict, so I'd like to work something out. I simply feel that there isn't enough information on the religion of Yevon specifically do warrant its own article.

I see your point, I didn't read just how similar that section of Spira and this article were. However I don't think the answer is to make this page intoa redirect. There is quite a bit of information particular to Yevon and the religion that does not apply to Spira, and we couldn't for example, have List of fictional religions dorected to an article about Spira.
I've added some very Yevon-specific stuff to this article, and removed a few of the duplicate bits. If we are to keep them serarate I/we'll need to do more, but I think we should probably cut Spira's information down next. I'ma bit tired so i won;t try now. Thank you for discussing, and I hope this is okay. -Erolos 23:24, 19 Jan 2005 (UTC)
The story of Yevon (the person) and how Sin came to be is inseparable from the history of Spira, and should not be taken out of Spira.PiccoloNamek 07:50, Jan 20, 2005 (UTC)

I'm in agreement with PN on leaving the Spira page as it now is. That said, there's enough Yevon-specific info here (which I've been correcting for the past little while) to warrant Yevon being its own article. The Blitzball article on the other hand probably should be shortened and incorporated into Spira at some point if it seems favorable, as we did with Pyreflies.

What's definite though is that we don't need a dozen pages covering one game, especially when there's so much overlap of material. But as I've said, I think Yevon warrants being its own article. Ryu Kaze 08:09, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

FFX Wiki Cleanup

[edit]

After the merger with the Pyreflies article, I've been thinking "Do we really need all these FFX pages?" I know FFX goes into a lot more detail about the world than most Final Fantasy games, to say nothing of how much more detail it goes into than most games in general. That said, despite all that's been done to improve it, Wikipedia looks like a Final Fantasy fansite. Cloud's page looks like a biography, Advent Children's looks like the reports that came out of Venice when the film was first screened there, just yesterday I had to merge Ultima Weapon with Weapons, and here we've got eight pages talking about Final Fantasy X alone; that's not including character pages:

I'm not excluding the other Final Fantasies from this either. Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy IX are actually decently condensed, I believe, but Final Fantasy VII is another guilty offender. Until recently, the bloody Sister Ray even had its own article, Midgar should be merged with List of Final Fantasy VII Locations, and Materia should be merged with Mako.

I'm going to be making some proposals over on the Final Fantasy VII pages too, but here, I think the following ideas should be considered:

I'm for the Yevon page staying, and if there's a lot of objections to the Final Fantasy X Original Soundtrack page being merged out of individuality, so be it (can't see what there is to say about it that can't be said on the Final Fantasy X page, though); that would still take us from eight down to four.

I haven't even looked at the character pages that much, really, but I'm not going to worry about them for now. What's everyone's thoughts on this stuff? (Please direct discussion of these matters to the Final Fantasy X Talk Page) Ryu Kaze 08:47, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

NEW PROPOSAL: For discussion of merging this page into Mythology of Final Fantasy X, please direct all comments to the Mythology of Final Fantasy X Talk Page.

MERGE: Yevon is being merged into Mythology of Final Fantasy X. The original content of this page can still be found on the Final Fantasy Wiki. Ryu Kaze 20:53, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
