Okay, fair enough. I find my understanding of math improved by this kind of concept, but I'm sure it could be stated better. I also think that, uless you're interested in in-depth coverage of the topic, a redirect page or Wiktionary article would be more appropriate.--Joel 22:56, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)

x and y are both ordinates

There is no logic to declare only y of the pair (x, y) an "ordinate". Together they are co-ordinates. Individually they are each ordinates. This follows the same logic as "co-authors", "co-writers", et cetera.
