Why does Fantasy Bestiary redirect here, and not the other way around? Have I been spelling "bestiary" wrong my whole life? Jwrosenzweig 00:22, 26 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Yeah, I agree that "bestiary" seems to be more common. "Beastiary" doesn't exist at dictionary.com, and Google shows that "bestiary" is far more common (searching for "beastiary" gives nearly as many results that spell it without the 'a'). But there's another problem with this article... --Mrwojo 21:31, 15 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Re-creation / duplicate article

[edit]

This article has been re-created from what used to be at fantasy bestiary (note the lowercase 'b'). There was role-playing bestiary, which then after discussion was moved to fantasy bestiary, which was moved to list of species in fantasy fiction. The discussion got a little scattershot since there were/are many articles covering a similar topic to this one, such as List of species in fantasy fiction, Race (fantasy), Monster, Legendary creature, Cryptozoology, List of species in folklore and mythology, List of aliens in fiction, and List of fictional species.

I'd recommend either merging the contents of this article into its near-duplicate list of species in fantasy fiction or, since it's RPG-centric again, remove what little non-RPG-specific stuff there is and put the interesting bits at role-playing bestiary. Regardless, this article shouldn't stay as it as at "Fantasy Beastiary". --Mrwojo 21:31, 15 Mar 2004 (UTC)

I don't personally see any reason for this article to exist as a seperate article from list of species in fantasy fiction and list of species in folklore and mythology. As it is, there's no way that this list could ever be complete without including the entire contents of both lists (or reproducing the table of contents of the Monster Manual, which would be both silly and copyvio). Also, even if role-playing bestiary is made into a separate article (again), it ought to be properly titled fantasy role-playing bestiary unless someone wants to include all the species from Traveller, Paranoia, Shadowrun, Gamma World, Metamorphosis Alpha, World of Darkness and so forth. -Sean 00:55, 27 Mar 2004 (UTC)
