Lafayette Life

[edit]

Although the population is listed as 110,000, I think there are twice that many people actually in Lafayette during a typical day. All the small towns around here (Maurice, Abbeville, St. Martinville, Broussard, Youngsville, New Iberia, Meaux, Duson, Carencro, etc.) all send their citzens to Lafayette to work, to shop, and to play. Unfortunately, the roads in Lafayette were not designed to handle 250,000, so our auto traffic is heavy and slow. Doesn't bother me, because I just go with the flow. We have too many accidents from careless people in a hurry, so slow down; we'll all get there. Lafayette has nice people also, great Cajun food, and many activities. Go see the sights, such as St. John's Cathedral and the 500-year-old oak tree, the Acadiana Mall, Acadian Village - an authentic reproduction of colonial times living.

Healthcare

The section which describes the Cardiovascular Institute of the South sounds like an advertisement. CTtcg (talk) 01:33, 9 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Acadiana Flag

[edit]

The flag depicted on this page as being the flag of Lafayette (Not explicit but implied) is actually the official flag of the Acadiana region, not just Lafayette. I suggest inserting a symbol more specific to the city of Lafayette in its place. Blueneondot (talk) 01:11, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't believe there is one. In practice, the Acadiana flag is always used. I see a flag has been uploaded, but I have never seen it in my life, and the only reference appears to be from some vexilology nerds, who make no claim that this is actually a flag people use. Instead, it appears to be derived from the LCG logo. I am removing the current flag because it's a complete misrepresentation of what flag we actually use. 67.250.75.102 (talk) 19:44, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

IPA on pronunciation

[edit]

The current IPA indicates the first "A" as "a as in father." While this would be correct in French, I think most people who live in the city use "a as in apple" when pronouncing the name of the city, unlike West Lafayette, Indiana. Correct me if I'm wrong. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.227.197.146 (talk) 20:30, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Completely agree, the pronunciation of "Lafayette" in Louisiana is much different from how it is pronounced elsewhere. /ˌlæfi'jɛt/ is much closer to the actual pronunciation. I'll go ahead and change it. 74.192.16.169 (talk) 06:01, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like someone finds my edit "questionable." Please explain yourself. I am a Lafayette native, and I know how it's supposed to sound.74.192.16.169 (talk) 16:19, 3 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The name is changed

[edit]

You should change name on Wikipedia. The mayor of Washington changed it to Black Lives Matter. Viktor350 (talk) 09:24, 6 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
