Appearance on Cannes Film Festival

[edit]

I removed the following statement:

The movie was featured at the Cannes Film Festival in 1973.

The only confirmation I can find is [1]; nobody else, not even the Cannes site mention it. The very comprehensive [2] mentions several other 70s porn movies that were shown in Cannes, but not Deep Throat. AxelBoldt 18:20, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Watergate informant nickname

[edit]

Bob Woodward did not dub the informant Deep Throat: "Dubbed "Deep Throat" by managing editor Howard Simons after a popular porn film at the time..." [3] Jokestress 01:59, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Previous Hardcore Porn

[edit]

I removed the line:

"Two lesser known hardcore porn movies had been released previously in the US: Mona in 1970 and School Girl in 1971."

because the connection to DT is lost on me. Surely it's not the third ever American porn film? RMoloney 05:10, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Deep Throat was the third porn film to have a general US theatrical release versus distribution only in adult theatres. Jokestress 2 July 2005 01:35 (UTC)

Deep thought vs deep throat?

[edit]

Where did the idea that "Deep thought" supercomputer in "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" was named after "Deep throat" came from? It seems unlikely to me... - Blueshade 15:58, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, I'd like to see a source on this. I've taken the line out for now. -- Chupon 21:57, 4 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I don't think it's that unlikely that Adams was playing with words here, like he often was. I tried to google around, and found only two citeable references: an article in the German newspaper Frankfurter Rundschau [4] ("der Supercomputer heißt "Deep Thought" - in Anspielung auf den Porno-Hit "Deep Throat" - "the super computer is called "Deep Thought", an allusion to the porn hit "Deep Throat") and the book "The Globe - Science of Discworld II" [5]. Then there's one science fiction site [6] and a list of blog entries, usenet articles and forum posts, all without any authority: [7] [8] [9] [10]. Perhaps we should soften the passage a bit, maybe like this: 'it has repeatedly been conjectured that "Deep Thought" is a satirical allusion to "Deep Throat"'.
What do you think? AxelBoldt 00:29, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
For what it's worth Don't Panic by Neil Gaiman quotes Adams as saying wrt Deep Thought "The name is a very obvious joke. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Daibhid C (talkcontribs) at 23:23, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bruises

[edit]

I moved the following statement here:

"Bruises are clearly visible on Lovelace's body throughout the film."

Can anybody who has seen the movie independently confirm this, or do we have a reference? Thanks, AxelBoldt 16:52, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have seen the movie, but I don't think our opinions qualify as evidence. We should cite some reputable third party making this observation, or leave it out. Nandesuka 22:12, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The claim is made in the Deep Throat documentary; I'll add it back. AxelBoldt 15:06, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Regardless of claims, could someone who has seen the whole movie inform us: are bruises visible on Linda during the film, or not? F W Nietzsche (talk) 18:03, 20 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I realize I'm hopping into a three-and-a-half year old discussion but since no one answered, I will. I have seen the film probably a dozen times in various settings, including to write an in-depth article about the film, and bruises are VERY clearly visible on Ms. Lovelace's legs. This is particularly obvious when Lovelace and Dolly Sharp are sitting outside (by a pool, I believe) and discussing sex. HillbillyProfane (talk) 16:20, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That is the right scene. Her bruises are very visible she has to big black bruises on the leg that is facing the camera. She is by the pool with her co star Dolly Sharp and in that scene the bruises are extremely visible. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.224.163.26 (talk) 05:32, 13 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Formats of Home Release

[edit]

Do you think its worth noting the formats the the movie has been released in since its one of the most re-released pornography? I would think noting at least the original formats maybe worthy of notation. - 68.81.139.149 23:42, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was wondering about this: "In 2006, a censored edition of the film was released on DVD for fans of pop culture and those wishing to own a legitimate copy of the infamous movie." There's not a legitimate uncensored edition of the film on DVD? It seems to me there is. Шизомби (talk) 04:56, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Soundtrack's artists

[edit]

Not all artists are unknown; Leon Ware talks about it in the Red Bull Music Academy interviews linked on his page, about how he did "Blowing Bubbles" in the studio, and one day someone told him it was in the movie. Not sure how to include this in an encyclopaedic manner though. Johnbiggs 06:50, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Roger Ebert citation

[edit]

Here's a link to the requested citation. I'm a newbie when it comes to editing. When I tried to add it to the article the numbering seemed off. So I'll leave it to someone else.

Tips on how to add refs would be greatly appreciated though. Thanks.Reelm (talk) 06:03, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for showing us where the link is! I just added it to the article. (Sorry it took so long for someone to do this, but I just now saw your comment.) You might want to see WP:IC and WP:REF. Hope this helps! Wakedream (talk) 17:46, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You really might want to see Wikipedia:Citation_templates which I think is what you're looking for. :-) Wakedream (talk) 17:59, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deep Throat II vs the "other" Deep Throat II Clarification

[edit]

I added some information and moved existing information for clarity regarding the first two sequels, both titled "Deep Throat II." In the section about the 1974 film, the following appeared: "Deep Throat 2 won the 1988 AVN award for 'Best Couples Sex Scene - Film'" which is confusing the two films. The 1987 "Deep Throat II" won that award, not the 1974 film, so I moved that sentence further down to the discussion of the "unofficial" sequels. I hope that made sense! It's not easy when two films have the exact same name, even if they were made 15 years apart! --HillbillyProfane (talk) 17:03, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rating

[edit]

While there is mention that the sequel was rated R (MPAA), there is absolutely no mention that I can find in the article of the original film's rating. Was it rated X? — Loadmaster (talk) 03:36, 25 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Crazy revenue claim

[edit]

There is data, there is strange data, and there is crazy data. A 600 million $ revenue is just crazy and deserves no quotation at all. Look, I checked out the list of biggest grossing films from that year and, guess what? "The Godfather" was first, "Deep Throat" was sixth... and even "The Godfather" was very far from reaching a 600 million $ revenue. Sorry, didn't keep that reference, but I am pretty sure anybody will be able to find it without much effort.-Ignacio Agulló — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.165.241.70 (talk) 03:38, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

i'm surprised to not see heston's name in the list of celebs who went to see it & either talked or wrote about it afterward, as he did in his 'an actor's life' ('78); his name's Got to be added to that list! 63.142.146.194 (talk) 06:43, 9 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
