Thanks for all your work on this article. It's currently on the WP:Bias fortnightly To Do list. I have created a new article for Mohammed Dib, from the Algeria section. Also I've wikified the Algeria section with as many birth and death dates as I could find, and added more authors. The authors and dates I added were also added to the List of African writers. Additionally, I created a List of Algerian writers article, and an 'Algerian writers' category. It would be good if a few people could choose a country, and an author from that country to concentrate on. - Xed 15:33, 6 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Article Licensing

[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

Psychoanalysis

[edit]

Hi, Thomas. I noticed you haven't been too busy here lately, but I would like to request your attention on something related to the WikiProject Critical Theory, where IIRC you were working in psychoanalytic theory.

In the Spanish wiki, where I'm most active nowadays, we're having some serious issues with a notorious if courteous POV-pusher who's turned the articlo on psychoanalysis into an all-out disqualification of its methods and practices. He claims extensive empirical testing has shown psychoanalysis' sucess rate to be similar to a placebo's, and official disavowal of psychoanalytic theory by the APA.

Not being an expert on the field, and even less in its current practice in the Ango-Saxon world, I'm at a loss for answers, although I perceive something distinctly fishy. If you have the time and inclination, I'd very much appreciate it if you could point me to relevant literature, or a trustworthy assessment of the statu quo.

Thanks in advance, and sorry for bothering you. Best, Taragüí @ 09:02, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiproject: countering systemic bias

[edit]

Hi Pteron, I wonder if you might be able to help - I'm writing an article for openDemocracy about the Wikiproject:countering systemic bias. I'd like to get some quotes from Wikipedians about why they're involved, what they're working on and some other general issues. I wonder if you'd be willing to talk to me over email? Mine is daviddariusbijan@yahoo.co.uk

Thanks,

David

TRANSLATION OF AN ARTICLE

[edit]

I'm a new user of wikipedia and would like to contribute to enrich some articles or just make them with some useful information. I've just seen that the article about Jazz in Portuguese is pretty poor and I'd like to take some content from English. I'd you to provide me some information about whether it's possible to translate into Portuguese 'cause i'm a little worried with copyright matters. thks in advance. willigfreitas@hotmail.com —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.74.148.64 (talk) 19:51, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Research survey invitation

[edit]

Greetings Pteron-

My name is Randall Livingstone, and I am a doctoral student at the University of Oregon, studying digital media and online community. I am posting to invite you to participate in my research study exploring the work of Wikipedia editors who are members of WikiProject: Countering Systemic Bias. The online survey should take 20 to 25 minutes to complete and can be found here:

https://oregon.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_cSHzuwaQovaZ6ss

Your responses will help online communication researchers like me to better understand the collaborations, challenges, and purposeful work of Wikipedia editors like you. In addition, at the end of the survey you will have the opportunity to express your interest in a follow-up online interview with the researcher.

This research project has been reviewed and approved by the Wikimedia Research Committee as well as the Office for Protection of Human Subjects at the University of Oregon. For a detailed description of the project, please visit its Meta page. This survey is voluntary, and your confidentiality will be protected. You will have the choice of using your Wikipedia User Name during the research or creating a unique pseudonym. You may skip any question you choose, and you may withdraw at any time. By completing the survey, you are providing consent to participate in the research.

If you have any questions about the study, please contact me via my Talk Page (UOJComm) or via email. My faculty advisor is Dr. Ryan Light. If you have any questions regarding your rights as a research participant, please contact the Office for Protection of Human Subjects at the University of Oregon.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Randall Livingstone School of Journalism & Communication University of Oregon UOJComm (talk) 18:30, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You should come hang out with us on the internetz!

[edit]

Hi! I wanted to let you know that we have created an IRC channel for "countering systemic bias one new editor at a time", aka closing the gender gap! Come hang out at #wikimedia-gendergap if that subject interests you. We hope this channel can serve as a safe haven to hang out, talk about Wiki, brainstorming, women in Wikimedia, article alerts and foster friendships. I hope you join us! (And if you need any IRC help, just let me know!) See you there! SarahStierch (talk) 22:07, 21 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File:Daniel Coats.jpg needs authorship information

[edit]
Dear uploader:

The media file you uploaded as File:Daniel Coats.jpg appears to be missing information as to its authorship (and or source), or if you did provide such information, it is confusing for others trying to make use of the image.

It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.

Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided), authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).

  • If you created this media yourself, please consider explicitly including your user name, for which: will produce an appropriate expansion,
    or use the own template.
  • If this is an old image, for which the authorship is unknown or impossible to determine, please indicate this on the file description page.
If you have any questions please see Help:File page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 21:58, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Volkstheater Millowitsch

[edit]

You appear to have kicked off this entry way back when. And thank you on behalf of those of us who may be wiki-interested.

Looking at German wikipedia and after a bit of follow up with Mr Google, I have the impression that it closed earlier this year "due to old age and lack of cash". Is that right? And if you still live in (or are in touch with) Cologne, are you able to update the entry by any chance?

Mit Dank im Voraus. Und mit Hoffnung Charles01 (talk) 16:55, 22 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
