Talk:Tourism in Sri Lanka

    • - Sorry, I'm not a normal editor here, but this whole page looks like it was written by a Sri Lankan tourism board member who speaks English as a second or third language. Needs a lot of cleaning up to meet standards factually and grammatically. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.72.129.99 (talk) 19:32, 13 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nonsense in intro

[edit]

I have no problem with the economist magazine, but opinion pieces and editorials within magazine no matter how reliable are not allowed in an encyclopedia to back factoids let alone controversial ones. Sinhala freedom 17:37, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Where's your so called new refs?[1] Its the same old your POV reversion. --♪♫ ĽąĦĩŘǔ ♫♪ walkie-talkie 17:46, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Read the WP:LEAD or goto WP:AN/I. The lead should be capable of standing alone as a concise overview of the article, establishing context, summarizing the most important points, explaining why the subject is interesting or notable, and briefly describing its notable controversies, if there are any. The emphasis given to material in the lead should roughly reflect its importance to the topic according to reliable, published sources. The lead should not "tease" the reader by hinting at but not explaining important facts that will appear later in the article. It should contain up to four paragraphs, should be carefully sourced as appropriate, and should be written in a clear, accessible style so as to invite a reading of the full article. --♪♫ ĽąĦĩŘǔ ♫♪ walkie-talkie 04:39, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Topic of the article

[edit]

This article is categorized by Wikipedia about the Tourism in each country as well as Sri Lanka. The section added as "Current staus" with citations is more favourable in "Civil war", because these details already included in the summary. More details about LTTE threats on crippling economy of Sri Lanka, another evidence of LTTE terrorism. The government of the United States already listed them as terrorists, so please avoid to put more details about their terrorist work into this article.

Otherwise we have to consider these things as "Vandalism".

Please come to a discussion about this article, before contacting the administrators for WP:AIV

Thanks,

Go on please go to WP:AIV. Tourism in Sri Lanka is affected by the civil war in the country. Specially the war on state terrorists and chauvinists. This is not a travel guide and as such we need to add things that affect the tourism in Sri Lanka. Stop making threats and go ahead and do it. Please :) Watchdogb 23:20, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Added citation tag because multiple citations are missing. Most of the article is un referenced. Many of the sentences seem to be OR. Also added Advert tags because this article is more about the "Beauty" of the spots than an article on tourism. Please remember that wikipedia is not a travel guide. Thanks Watchdogb 03:59, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think the AD tag is overboard and a little redundant. However, everything has to be properly referenced so where anyone has problem with the facts, the fact tag should be introduced. Again blatant removal of content from the intro. Sinhala freedom 13:42, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Please go and read the rules carefully. Wikipedia is not a place for adds and it is surely not a travel guide. I will re add the tags until the article is cleaned up Watchdogb 17:58, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The article does have sourcing problems, for sure, but some of the proposed edits are going overboard with the {{cn}} tags. Perhaps a single "needs more sources" tag at the start? --Haemo 03:23, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There is already a {{unreferenced}} tag. --snowolfD4 ( talk / @ ) 23:52, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That does not mean that a {{cn}} cannot be added at places where citation is needed. Snow, do not think every edit that is made by myself is intended on attacking you. The tags are added so editors can come along and add citation in place of the tags. Just having the {{unreferenced}} at the top the article (or the top of a whole section) does not really show where the citations are needed. Having sub {{cn}} at places will show exactly which parts are missing citations. Watchdogb 01:46, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

{{editprotected}} I wish to add references and put this article into Wiki quality. So I am requesting possibility of editing this page.Bodhi dhana 15:49, 24 September 2007 (UTC)bodhi_dhana[reply]

This page was protected just a couple days ago because of edit warring. The protection is set to expire on October 8, and unless there are signs of discussion on this talk page I don't think the article needs to be unprotected earlier. — Carl (CBM · talk) 14:21, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Threats to Tourism section

[edit]

The fact that LTTE carried out attacks on major tourist destinations in Sri Lanka belongs on this article. It had attacked Anuradhapura and Yala national park widely known as tourist destinations. So I don't know how it could be excluded from the article. Sinhala freedom 02:57, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Too much on security in intro

[edit]

Almost half the intro was taken up by security discussion, some of it word-for-word as the main body of the article. I have eliminated the duplication and added a few links from the intro into the Security Threats section where they belong. Tyronen (talk) 06:20, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not really. It looks like some parts were removed. I am going to revert it back to original version Watchdogb (talk) 15:37, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I removed some redundant text from the lead. Hope that takes care of your concerns Watchdogb (talk) 15:39, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
